The President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has told journalists in Ghana’s capital, Accra that the first president of that country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was the best African leader ever.
Mr. Mugabe, 93 said he was inspired by Dr. Nkrumah during the struggle for independence in Zimbabwe.
Kwame Nkrumah was instrumental in the formation of the now African Union and championed the liberation of most African countries by supporting some of them with funds during their struggles.
Ghana on Monday, March 6 marked 60 years since the country gained independence from British colonial rule. Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe joined other African leaders for that celebration in Accra.
Mugabe prior to leading his country to gain independence from the British lived in Ghana and taught in some schools. He later married his first wife from Ghana.
The Zimbabwean President has ruled for 30 years. He recently returned from Singapore where he went for a medical checkup.
