The African Union (AU) has sanctioned a mass withdrawal of member states from the International Criminal Court (ICC) but this will not be binding.
The decision was taken at the AU’s heads of state summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Tuesday.
The AU is however pushing for reforms within the ICC as it prepares to hold talks with the UN Security Council.
Although 34 African states have signed on to the Rome Statute, which set up the ICC, many of them have raised concerns with what they call is unfair targeting of African leaders.
The resolution by the AU was however opposed by Nigeria and Senegal.
South Africa and Burundi have already decided to withdraw from the ICC. These countries say the ICC is undermining their sovereignty Africans, a claim the ICC has denied.
