Alieu Mommar Njie, the man who superintended over the last presidential polls in The Gambia has returned home from exile. The same is reported of Jammeh’s lawyer, Anthony Gomez.
Both men fled at different times to neighbouring Senegal. Njie left after death threats were made on his life after security operatives seized his office in mid-December. He was present at the investiture of Adama Barrow in Dakar.
He had before then declared President Adama Barrow winner of the December 1, 2016 elections which brought an end to over two decades of rule by Yahya Jammeh who is currently on exile in Equatorial Guinea.
Lawyer Gomez who represented Jammeh in court on two post-election cases also fled with days to the end of Jammeh’s mandate. Both cases, one an election petition and the other an injunction application against the investiture of Adama Barrow could not be heard for lack of judges.
In his resignation letter he urged Jammeh to respect the will of the Gambian people and peacefully handover power. Incidentally, both men returned on the same day that President Adama Barrow flew into the country since he took his oath of office in Dakar.
