Officials in Somalia have confirmed the death of at least four soldiers in a roadside bomb attack on Tuesday.
Five others were also wounded by the bomb that were planted by Islamist insurgents which exploded outside a military camp in a town near Mogadishu.
A police spokesperson, Major Osman Abdulle told Reuters that the blast in Afgoye happened a day after a raid in the same town by the al Shabaab group.
He said in that interview with Reuters that “Last night, we repulsed the militants who attacked us. They must have planted the bomb”.
Al Shabaab which claimed responsibility for the attack said it planted the bomb last night. Its military operations spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, told Reuters “”We planted the bomb last night. At least seven soldiers died,”
Al Shabaab is fighting the government in Mogadishu.
