The former president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has been accused of making away with millions of dollars while departing from the country on Saturday.
Mai Ahmad Fatty, an advisor to the new president of The Gambia, Adama Barrow told the BBC that more than $11m cannot be accounted for following Mr. Jammeh’s departure.
He said an investigation will be conducted by financial experts evaluate the exact loss.
Mr. Jammeh flew out of Banjul into exile on Saturday after hours of talks with some West African leaders for him to step down peacefully.
He had refused to hand over power despite losing last year’s presidential elections.
Luxury cars were among many items that were loaded on to a Chadian cargo plane on while Mr Jammeh left the country.
President Barrow is still in Senegal, yet to return to his country. West African troops have entered the Gambian capital, Banjul, on Sunday to prepare for his arrival.
