Six people have been killed by lightening in Zimbabwe. They were sheltering under a tree while avoiding torrential rain on Sunday.
According to the Herald a police spokeswoman Charity Charamba confirmed the deaths which happened in Binga, in the north-west of the country.
Charity Charamba said several others were injured in the lightening.
“The victims were part of the gathering attending a funeral wake when heavy rains pounded the area. They sought shelter under a tree and were struck by a bolt of lightning, killing them instantly.” She said.
The police spokeswoman further said “Members of the public should also install lightning conductors at their homes so that lightning bolts are easily conducted to the ground.”
Residents of the community are being urged to avoid sheltering under trees or walk on open grounds during thunder storms.
