Gambia’s communications minister, Sherriff Bojang is being reported to have fled the country. Other ministers are believed to be lining up to follow.

The country’s chief justice, Emmanuel Fagbenle has also been reported to have left the country a day before a petition filed at the Supreme Court by President Yahya Jammeh is to be heard.

Foreign judges from Sierra Leone and Nigeria expected in the country to hear the case on Tuesday, January 10 will also not be traveling to Banjul.

The chairman of the Gambian Independent Electoral commission, Alieu Momar Njai also fled the country last week.
Mr. Jammeh has refused to step down after losing last year’s presidential elections to Adama Barrow. Mr. Jammeh’s tenure ends on January 19.
A delegation of West African leaders is expected to travel to the Gambia on January 11 to make another attempt to resolve the current political crisis in that country.
The delegation will be led by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari. He will be joined by leaders of Sierra Leone and Liberia during that visit.
