The International Criminal Court has made a passionate appeal to the Gambia, Burundi and South Africa who have announced their intention to withdraw from the court to rescind their decision.
Similar appeals were made to other African nations as the ICC begins its annual meeting at The Hague.
On Wednesday The Gambia formally notified the UN of its decision to withdraw from the court as has been done by South Africa and Burundi.
Senegal’s Minister of Justice and the president of the ICC’s Assembly of State Parties meeting in The Hague, Sidiki Kaba asked the countries not to go.
Mr. Kaba assured the members of the court concerns about bias against African countries will be looked into saying it is “urgent and necessary to defend the ideal of justice for all”.
Kenya, Namibia and Uganda have already signaled intentions to also exit the ICC.
