100 Kenyan soldiers that served in the U.N. peacekeeping mission in South Sudan on Wednesday returned to the capital, Nairobi.
The Kenyan Government ordered their return after withdrawing their services in retaliation to the sacking of the Kenyan commander of the UN Mission force.
The decision to withdraw Kenyan troops came after a U.N. inquiry accused the mission under the command of Lieutenant General Johnson Mogoa Kimani Ondieki of not responding to an attack on a Juba hotel during fighting in July.
The Juba hotel attack took place during days of fighting between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and his former vice president, Riek Machar.
Kenyan Major General Benjamin Biwott told the media in Nairobi that “Today we have started our withdrawal from South Sudan”.
More Kenyan soldiers are expected back in the country in the coming days.
