Police in Ghana have launched investigations into circumstances under which thieves broke into a police station in the capital Accra.

The Nima police station is located close to the private residence of Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo.

According to local news outlet Starr FM, the thieves made away with items such as laptops, printers, television sets and other stationery.

Shirts belonging to police officers were also taken away by the thieves during the break in on Thursday dawn.

No arrests have been made just yet but many have been amazed by the incident since the facility was supposed to be guarded by police officers.

According to police officers at the station the building was not entirely without any protection as priority was given to facility housing weapons are suspects.

There have been a few reports of thieves breaking into police stations in Ghana. Often police officers who work there are found complacent.
