Thousands of people have signed an online petition calling for a change in the leadership of the African Union Commission.

The petition started by one Bovet Maloba reads that “we the children of Africa humbly wish and request Dr Arikana Chihombori -Quao and Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba popularly known as PLO Lumumba, should be the next Chair & deputy chair of the African Union Commission.”

Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao was sacked last year as the African Union (AU) Permanent Ambassador in the United States.

The African Union at the time said that Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao was sacked for misconducting herself while in office.

Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao who was appointed to the position in December 2016 was able to galvanize the support of people of African Descent in the U.S and beyond.

She has been heard on several occasions criticizing the west for maintaining neo-colonial policies that are meant to keep Africa poor.

Outspoken personalities

Chihombori-Quao was very outspoken and had become a leading voice for Pan-Africanism, so her sacking shocked many.

On the back of her dismissal, some Africans in the diaspora launched a petition to get her reinstated.

Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba popularly known as PLO Lumumba is also a renowned public speaker who has pushed extensively the pan-African agenda.

The online petition said “that the above two great leaders should be surrounded and advised by tough Africans like H.E Jerry John Rawlings, Mo Ibrahim the Sudanese billionaire, Julius Sello Malema, Professor Nicolas Agbohou, Dr. Samuel Mathey, the father of zero, Kemi Seba born as Stellio Gilles Robert & our Nigerian daughter Adeola Oledele Fayehum who will be a future treasure to Africa.”

Moussa Faki Mahamat from Chad is the current chair of the AU commission. His deputy is Kwesi Quartey from Ghana.

The online petition said “our son Moussa Faki has tried his best but he can’t offer more than he has. Africa is giving this lofty responsibilities to Dr Arikana Chihombori and PLO Lumumba beacuse of their high calling and purpose.”
