53 African countries have as at May 9 reported a total of 57,746 cases of coronavirus with 2,151 deaths, and 19,351 recoveries.
Only Lesotho is yet to confirm any case of coronavirus but there are a few countries that are also yet to record deaths from the pandemic.
Only nine countries are yet to confirm deaths from coronavirus in Africa with majority of them from Eastern Africa.
In Central Africa, the Central African Republic has confirmed 143 cases but still is yet to record any deaths and remains the only country in that region with such a record.
Eastern Africa has six countries without deaths from the virus and appears to be the region with the lowest number of deaths so far.
Eritrea, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Sudan and Uganda are the countries in East Africa with no deaths as at yet.
In Southern Africa, Mozambique and Namibia are the countries there yet to confirm deaths from the virus.
All countries in North Africa and West Africa that recorded coronavirus cases have all recorded deaths.
North, South and West African regions are those with more deaths than other sub-regions on the continent.

- South Sudan – 120 cases, 0 deaths, 2 recoveries
- Uganda – 101 cases, 0 deaths, 55 recoveries
- Mozambique – 82 cases, 0 deaths, 27 recoveries
- Namibia – 16 cases, 0 deaths, 10 recoveries
- Central African Republic – 143 cases, 0 deaths, 12 recoveries
