The US President, Donald Trump has been ridiculed all over social media and mainstream media for suggesting that covid-19 patients might be cured by treating them with injections of disinfectant and applications of ultraviolet light.
At a news briefing on Thursday President Trump tried to feed on a US study that suggested that the coronavirus can be killed on surfaces and in aerosols by heat, humidity, sunlight and disinfectants, specifically bleach and isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
Tapping into that presentation from William Bryan, a scientist at the Department of Homeland Security on the recent research, Trump went further to float the idea that people might get better being injected with disinfectant and application of ultraviolet light.
“Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light. And I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but we’re going to test it,” Trump said adding “And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, either through the skin or some other way.”
“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and does a tremendous number on the lungs,” Trump continued.
“It would be interesting to check that. That you’re gonna have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me, so we’ll see.”
Putin: just tell them to kill themselves.
Trump: like ingesting disinfectant?
Putin: yes, the Jim Jones of Lysol.
Trump: yes boss.

But none of the medical experts at the news briefing suggested that these were potential treatments for people already infected.
With fears rife that Trump supporters could listen to his suggestion, Dettol and Lysol and other producers of disinfectants have told the American people that “under no circumstances” should they be injected with their products.
Outrage on Social media
On social media many experts were outraged at Trump’s comments.
Hi, ER Doc here.
Do NOT inject or consume ANY disinfectants in an attempt to kill COVID19.

English exceptionalism is laughing at “Dumb Americans” worshipping Trump, while voting for Boris Johnson…and not realising you are one and the same, and the whole world holds you in contempt.

Reading that Trump is suggesting injecting disinfectant to ward off Coroniviruse makes me think he is not a well man. As such he is not the problem. It is those republicans in the GOP that prop him up without integrity so that they might retain power that are the Machiavellians.

Who’d have thought this possible? Last night I was at @realDonaldTrump briefing when he talked about injecting #disinfectant. Today I wake to a letter from the biggest manufacturer saying NO. DON’T INGEST pic.twitter.com/WddU20fsQr
