The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has suggested that Africa’s battle against Covid-19 is not as difficult as fighting indiscipline among its people.
Museveni in a tweet appeared frustrated by the failure of citizens of his country to comply with guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.
He said “We are not fighting against #COVID-19 here and in Africa. We are fighting primarily against the social indiscipline of our people.”
“They do not want to follow even the simplest guidelines, for them, it must be always about convenience, but this is a matter of life and death,” Museveni added.
It is not clear what might have sparked Museveni’s despair and frustration but it appears Ugandans are violating guidelines given to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Lockdown in Uganda
This month Uganda began a total lockdown for an initial period of 14 days to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
Uganda has 53 confirmed cases of coronavirus as at April 8, 2020.
Museveni earlier in announcing latest infection numbers said “Thank you Ugandans for responding well. If we had not acted well, I do not know where we would be now.”
“This virus is easy especially for us in Africa. If people were serious, it would be easy. Keep away the matchbox, scatter the dry grass then add your individual responsibility,” he said.
The Ugandan President said “There are some actors that play with fire. This disease is very dangerous. Those playing with fire should stop playing and talking nonsense. You’re in the house bored? That is good for you, you could be in the grave.
There is no boredom there, things are very calm. Mass death is what we are talking about, stopping it. So I am going to be very harsh with anyone who is playing around because it seems people don’t understand the civilised way of doing things”.

Museveni has also cautioned security personnel against abusing citizens and the use of excessive force while handling quarantine and curfew offenders.
