Ethiopia says it is developing a cure for the deadly coronavirus as they world awaits a vaccine from scientists.

The country’s Ministries of Health (MoH) and Innovation and Technology (MoIT) have said in a statement that “a domestic treatment drug” is being developed.

The joint statement said the cure is being developed by traditional medicine experts of the country.

According to the two ministries the drug is prepared by integrating indigenous traditional medical knowledge with modern science.

Ethiopia said the new drug has gone through the basic research procedures and was successful in the laboratory modelling processes.

Ethiopia’s minister for Innovation and Technology, Abraham Belay said in the statement that “Since the outbreak of the pandemic, research had been going on by different Ethiopian scientists both in the country and abroad”

“We are seeing good results and further outcomes will be revealed to the public in the short term.”

“It has passed through various testing stages and now the greenlight has been given for further clinical trial,” he said, adding, “the next step is testing the product,” he adds.

The minister revealed that the drug in the pipeline will cure patients by boosting their immunity, but some analysts have called for caution though.

Ghana’s possible cure for coronavirus

Meanwhile in Ghana health experts say a locally produced drug called COA FS could help fight the deadly coronavirus.

The organic antiviral medicine COA FS and COA according to researchers could boost the immune system and naturally fight viruses.

The locally produced food supplement, COA FS has helped users boost their immune systems which may help in the fight against covid 19.

Already some of the drugs have been exported to China where they are believed to have helped people boost their immune systems to fight diseases.

It is produced by the Center of Awareness Global Peace Mission with its lab based in central Ghana.

Its Executive President, Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan has revealed that “We sent 15 boxes of the COA products to China two weeks ago to try coronavirus patients and information reaching us indicate that there have been significant improvement in their conditions.”

The Coronavirus has infected close to a million people as at April 2, 2020 and experts are yet to develop a vaccine that can protect people from the virus.

So far some countries are treating the virus with anti-malarial and HIV/AIDS drugs, with successes so far for some patients.
