A politician from the ruling party in Ghana has been shot dead by an unknown assailant in the Western part of the country.
Local media reported that Mark Ofori who is the constituency treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Takoradi, capital of the Western region was killed in his home.
He was reportedly shot by the gunman on Wednesday, who fled without taking away any of his property.
The politician’s elder brother also sustained gunshot wounds in the process.
A security officer who attempted blowing the cover of the gunman was also killed.
A executive from the ruling party in the region where the incident occurred, Abdul Ganiwu told local radio station Citi FM that “We were called that someone had gone to the house and shot him dead…The constituency executives have been to Hospital where he has been kept”.
The incident has shocked many residents in the area who are hoping the police are able to unravel those behind the crime.
Police say they have launched an investigation into the incident as they race against time to assure residents of their safety.
