Top Ghanaian Actor John Dumelo who has his sight set on becoming a lawmaker on Saturday cleared his first hurdle.

The “A Night with Her” actor won his party’s primaries in Ghana’s Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

Dumelo is a member of Ghana’s opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress, NDC.

The “Black Men Rock” actor with his party level victory will now face off with the representative of the ruling party, likely to be the incumbent MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

John Dumelo after his victory said he is putting in the work to clinch the seat for the first time for the NDC in 2020.

He said “We lost by 10,000 votes in 2016 because it was just normal voter apathy which happened to us. So going forward, now that the NDC is united, now that we have a united front and now that I’m the parliamentary candidate we know for a fact that if we do our homework well which we are doing we will definitely get the seat from the NPP.”

Movie Personalities vying to become MPs

Meanwhile another movie personality Dzifa Gomashie has also won her party’s primaries also hoping to become a lawmaker.

Her acting career dates back to 1985 when she joined the Talents Theatre Company in Ghana.

She played diverse roles in many local and internationally produced movies.

Mrs. Gomashie was the producer of the popular story-telling-themed television series “By The Fireside”, which enjoyed tremendous success in the 90s.

She later joined politics after she was appointed as deputy minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture by former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
