An American politician, Carl Robinson shot his wife dead before killing himself after receiving divorce papers.

Carl Robinson who is a democratic candidate seeking election to the Mississippi House of Representatives is reported by US media of carrying out the act on Tuesday.

He apparently walked to the medical clinic where his wife who was seeking a divorce worked as a receptionist and shot her dead.

Robinson then turned the gun on himself and killed himself.

Marshall County Sheriff, Kenny Dickerson told the media that the murder-suicide happened at the Williams Medical Clinic in Potts Camp.

“We found the shooter dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head,” Dickerson told the Daily Journal.

Kenny Dickerson added that Robinson “and his wife were in the process of a divorce. His wife was lying on the floor near his body.”

The woman who was shot was 34-year-old Latoya Thompson. Police say she died as emergency workers were trying to put her on a medical helicopter.
