Popular Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán has been sentenced to life in prison by a US judge.
El Chapo also gets additional 30 years to this life imprisonment for unlawful use of firearms.
A New York federal court found the 62, guilty of 10 charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering.
El Chapo was notorious for breaking jail. He escaped from a Mexican jail through a tunnel in 2016.
After his re-arrest but El Chapo was extradited to the US in 2017 to face trial.
Guzmán headed the Sinaloa cartel, considered the biggest supplier of drugs to the US.
El Chapo told the court during his sentencing on Wednesday that his confinement in the US amounts to “psychological, emotional, mental torture 24 hours a day”.
He claimed to have been unfairly treated during the entire trial by not being given a fair hearing.
Guzmán also accused jurors who arrived at his conviction of misconduct.

According to Prosecutors he would be serving his sentence behind “tonnes of steel” signalling the kind of high-security prison in Colorado he will be placed in.
