Popular messenger platform WhatsApp is facing a major challenge globally with users on Wednesday unable to make media downloads.
Users in the United Kingdom, Europe and parts of Africa have made several complaints on other social media platforms.
Most concerns relate to users’ inability to load, send or receive media content via WhatsApp.
The outage has affected both the app and the website versions.
Although users can send text messages sometimes voice notes, videos and photos do not get downloaded or sent to users.
Many users get frustrated to be signaled of a ‘download failed’ message and then asked to try again.
Some users of Instagram have also complained of some challenges with the App.
Facebook which is the mother company of WhatsApp and Instagram has confirmed the issue after several complaints and said the issue is being rectified.
The company said in a statement that “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble uploading images, videos and other files on our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Although Facebook is struggling to find the main reason for the challenge, there are indications it could be “possible Service Disruption”.
Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram in March experienced their longest outages. At the time the site was down for two days.
