The former first lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan is set to forfeit some $33 million cash seized from her.
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the permanent forfeiture of the sums of $25.5 million (N9.2bn) and an extra $8.4m recovered from her.
The judge Justice Mojisola Olatoregun gave the order asking that the funds be forfeited to the Federal Government.
In 2017 officials of the Nigeria Police Force raided the house of the wife of former president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.
The raid by operatives of the police was to uncover huge foreign currencies allegedly being kept in the building.
In 2016 the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also froze $15m money belonging to the former first lady.
The EFCC argued in court that the said money belonging to the former first lady were proceeds of crime.
But lawyers of Mrs. Jonathan insisted that the funds were legitimately her own.
The court however affirmed that the EFCC proved its claim beyond reasonable doubts.
Mrs. Jonathan has always maintained that the probe into her financial dealings is a political witch hunt.
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to tackle corruption in Nigeria.
His government has been investigating former government officials perceived to have stolen state money.
