The President of Gabon, Ali Bongo has returned home once again after traveling to Morocco for medical leave.
He left for Morocco last month after staying briefly in Gabon following a failed coup.
Bongo was forced to return home from Morocco to put in place a new cabinet.
But the president traveled back again to Morocco for further treatment haven suffered stroke last year.
President Bongo suffered stroke last year during a trip to Saudi Arabia. That plunged the country into governance crisis.
The lack of an effective government while he was sick led to the Constitutional Court modifying the constitution to address the scenario of “temporary incapacity” by the head of state.
Reuters quotes a source at the Gabonese presidency as saying that “The president returned yesterday (Sunday). This morning he has meetings with the heads of constitutional institutions and then with certain members of the government.”
There are no public appearances planned for the President yet, the source further told Reuters.
“Nothing has been said or determined by his medical staff on this subject”, the source said when asked if the return was permanent.
Ali Bongo became President in 2009 taking over from his father Omar Bongo. His father had been president for more than 40 years.
