A viral video on social media in Ghana shows some Nigerian nationals attacking Ghanaian Immigration officers.
The Nigerians are believed to be residing in Kasoa, a town in Central Ghana.
The immigration officers who were in a pick-up vehicle were said to be on duty to check the resident permits of the Nigerians.
The Nigerians were seen in the over one minute video blocking the vehicle the officers were riding in from moving with cement blocks and other objects.
The Spokesperson of the Ghana Immigration Service, Michael Amoako-Atta confirmed the incident to local media.
He said the officers were on normal operation to check on foreign nationals who don’t have legal stay “and they met these Nigerians who were trying to resist.”
He told Accra based Starrfm a committee has been set up to probe the matter saying the service wont “sit ideal for this to go unanswered.”
There are thousands of Nigerians residing in Ghana and doing business as well.
Such attacks are not regular but in recent years there have been agitations from Ghanaians who want Nigerians out of their retail markets.
These markets are originally reserved solely for locals but many Nigerians operate in them.
The Ghanaian local businesses say the Nigerians are taking over their businesses.
