Several people are feared dead in Nigeria after a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of petroleum exploded.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that at least two persons and five vehicles were burnt on Wednesday during the explosion.

The explosion occurred at the Barracks Bus Stop, along Mile 2 on Badagry Expressway in Lagos.

Local media reports that the truck was conveying combustive products to an undisclosed petrol station.

The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Musibau Rasaki confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Rasaki is quoted as saying that “Two persons were burnt to death, one other person sustained injury and was taken to the hospital. Five vehicles were also burnt, including the tanker.”

The accident reportedly caused heavy traffic on the busy Expressway road.

A similar incident occurred three weeks ago leaving several passengers stranded for hours along the same route.
