Egypt will be hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations football tournament to be staged between June and July.
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced the decision on Tuesday.
Egypt bid to host the tournament alongside South Africa after the rights were taken away from Cameroon late last year.
According to Caf, Cameroon was not ready to host an expanded 24-team tournament.
Cameroon was also reported to be witnessing a lot of violent protests.
CAF considered unsecured for the competition to be hosted in such an environment.
The official announcement was expected to be made on Wednesday, but the decision was brought forward to Tuesday.
Egypt received 16 votes to South Africa’s one, Caf confirmed at a press conference.
