A motion seeking to have President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi impeached has been dropped for lack of support.
The motion for impeachment was filed on Sunday in the country’s parliament by a top parliament administration official.
President Abdullahi was accused of secretly signing trade and security agreements with countries like Ethiopia and Eritrea.
The impeachment motion also claimed that the President illegally extradited criminals to some countries thereby violating Somalia’s law.
For the impeachment proceeding to take place the motion required signatures of 92 lawmakers. Then the Parliament can debate the motion before a potential vote.
But the parliamentary clerk said in a statement that 14 legislators had withdrawn their names from the 92 who supported the move initially.
The lack of numbers for the motion means a proceeding of impeachment can no longer take place.
