Three civilians were reportedly killed in a fight between Nigerian soldiers and Boko Haram fighters in Borno State.
AFP reports that a military source said the clash occurred on Friday near the Jakana village not far from the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.
The source was quoted as saying that “It was an intense fight. Our troops saw them passing near the village and confronted them.
The terrorists were obviously heading toward the bush to congregate and launch an attack somewhere. One soldier was injured and three civilians caught up in the fight were killed.”
Boko Haram continues to attack military camps across Nigeria as it intensifies its deadly attacks.
Since 2009 the militant group has killed thousands of people through various forms of attacks. It has led to the displacement of millions.
Last month a meeting was convened by Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari in Chad’s capital N’Djamena to find solutions to the crisis.
The meeting also reviewed the security situation in areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. It was also to help adopt measures to enhance the capacity of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure the Lake Chad region.
The region battled affected by Boko Haram activities covers Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and the Central African Republic.
