Fighting in parts of Ethiopia since July has displaced over 200,000 people, aid group Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) says.
Those displaced according to the NRC have fled into camps. Ethiopian officials are struggling to control ethnic conflict on the border of Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regions.
The NRC says so far a total number of 700,000 have been displaced by the unending ethnic violence in the East African country.
According to NRC’s regional adviser Evelyn Aero “Few aid groups are present, and more families arrive every day while resources are overstretched.
Elders tell us people are dying for lack of aid. These families need lifesaving aid, before it’s too late.”
Earlier this month Ethiopian police uncovered a mass grave with some 200 people. Officials said the grave was uncovered in an area between the country’s Oromia and Somali regions.
According to state broadcaster Fana police are now investigating the discovery.
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed has been rolling out reforms since taking over power. Those reforms are towards ending the several violence clashes in the country.
In an efforts to restore peace to most restive regions of the country, he created a new peace ministry. The ministry is headed by a woman as well.
