Ethiopia has moved a step forward in dealing with the current insecurity in the country by creating a new ministry.

The country is not creating additional ministry to defend and crackdown on violence but rather one that ensures peace.

BBC reports that an official document shows that the ministry of peace will focus on bringing peace and security to Ethiopia.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has just reduced the number of ministries in the country from 28 to 20. He however created this new ministry to restore peace to restive regions within the country.

Details about the new ministry is scanty but Mr Abiy Ahmed is hoping this latest move will bring some change.

Ahmed since becoming Prime Minister has been rolling out new reforms in the east African nation.

Some of the sweeping reforms led to Ethiopia and Eritrea restoring diplomatic ties and ending decades of war.

Last week Ethiopian officials said over 70,000 people have fled their homes in the western part of the country following the eruption of violence.

UN officials said some 44 people are also reported to have died in the ethnic violence. UN says almost one million people have been displaced by violence in southern Ethiopia since April.
