Residents in a city in Democratic Republic of Congo have attacked health workers helping providing care for Ebola patients.
The residents of the city of Butembo have rejected claims of the existence of the Ebola virus. They angrily attacked the health workers rejecting their support.
Some of the residents were reported to have thrown rocks at the car carrying the health workers. Four workers from the Red Cross were injured in the process.
Two other health workers are however reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Last month, Health workers suspended their work in the city of Beni due to violent attack by rebels. They only resumed work last week.
Hundreds of people have been infected with the deadly Ebola and health officials have been working hard to contain the spread.
Over 100 people have also died from the current outbreak as well.
Treatment centres have been opened but the resumption of work by the health officials means there would be vaccination services.
The WHO has always maintained that fighting the outbreak has been challenging due to the ongoing militia violence.
The Ebola virus which is transmitted by bats. It was first discovered in DRC in 1976 and named after the Ebola river. Ebola leads to internal and external bleeding which can cause damage done to blood vessels.
