The United States Agency for International Development, USAID, wants stronger partnership in addressing challenges within Africa’s energy sector.

The West African regional mission director, Daniel Moore says the sector could transform Africa’s economy if well harnessed.

Daniel Moore was speaking at the just ended 3rd Annual Regional Energy Cooperation Summit in Ghana.

He said “For our part the US government is working with West African institutions to address this challenges mainly though our Power Africa Initiative”.

“So far 117 projects has so far been executed under the Power Africa Project” he added.

Ghana’ Deputy Energy Minister William Quaitoo on his part revealed his country will in October conduct and open its  first competitive bidding round for the allocation of new oil blocks.

According to him a licensing, evaluation and negotiation committee has already been inaugurated to ensure a successful bidding.

The summit was attended by over two hundred major players in the energy sector across Africa. Africa Feeds was a media partner for the summit.
