Zimbabwe’s opposition party to inaugurate Chamisa as ‘President’

Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party is reported to be planning to “inaugurate” its leader Nelson Chamisa as ‘President’.

Local media New Zimbabwe.com reports that the MDC believes its leader Chamisa is the legitimate president of Zimbabwe.

Chamisa and his MDC party lost a legal challenge to the Zimbabwe election results last month at the constitutional court.

The court upheld an earlier announcement by the Zimbabwe election commission declaring President Emmerson Mnangagwa as winner of the presidential election.

But the MDC and its leader Chamisa reject the court’s ruling. Chamisa is reported to have told his supporters in Chitungwiza over the weekend that the said inauguration will take place on Saturday.

He said “Next week, the MDC family will celebrate its 19^th Anniversary. As a party, we sat down and discussed the issue on election theft. We want to conclude this matter,” Chamisa was quoted as saying.

“We are not joking; this is not a joke. Yes, you can have the military might, but no military might can defeat the popular vote.”

Emmerson Mnangagwa has already been sworn in as President and has already started appointing his cabinet.
