China has rejected claims that several funds provided for projects in Africa have strings attached to them.
The country’s President, Xi Jinping said on Monday that Chinese funds are not for “vanity projects” in Africa. Jinping said the funds are meant to build infrastructure to enhance upon the continent’s development.
President Xi Jinping was speaking ahead of a China-Africa summit in Beijing aimed at strengthening relations between Africa and China.
The Chinese leader said his country is only interested in investing in Africa without any political strings attached.
“China does not interfere in Africa’s internal affairs and does not impose its own will on Africa. What we value is the sharing of development experience and the support we can offer to Africa’s national rejuvenation and prosperity,” Xi said.
Xi adds that “China’s cooperation with Africa is clearly targeted at the major bottlenecks to development. Resources for our cooperation are not to be spent on any vanity projects but in places where they count the most.”
The United States of America has warned African countries against Chinese investments and aid saying they could be dangerous.
But China says it means good dealing with Africa. That assurance will be further provided during this week’s summit.
