The pop star-turned MP in Uganda Bobi Wine is suffering from “kidney problem” following his arrest and detention.

Bobi Wine whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was arrested together with other civilians this month. They were accused of playing a role in an attack on President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy.

The incident occurred on August 13 during a campaign for a parliamentary by-election in the town of Arua.

The vocal MP was reportedly brutalized in jail and was unable to walk during his release. He and other suspects were released by a court on Monday.

His lawyers told The Associated Press that a medical report revealed that the MP has serious kidney problem that needs urgent medical attention abroad.

One of his lawyers Medard Sseggona said on Wednesday that soldiers “squeezed his (Bobi Wine) manhood,” while in detention. “He was suffering pain in the hips” he adds.

The Ugandan army on Tuesday said it has arrested soldiers involved in beating suspects arrested over the attack on Museveni’s convoy.

There were calls for investigations and punishment for the soldiers who abused those detained.

The army spokesman Richard Karemire says “We have apprehended all the (soldiers) who were involved in the incidents and they have been brought to book.”
