A search has been launched for occupants of a boat that capsized in a river in the capital Monrovia.
The boat was carrying 12 people when it capsized in the river, south of the capital. The boat reportedly hit an object in the river.
It was travelling from Unification Town to nearby Dolo on Wednesday, local media reports.
About nine people are now reported to have gone missing, according to the the state-run Liberia Broadcasting System.
Teens and young adults are among those missing. Those rescued are receiving treatment at health faclities.
Residents in Dolo say some of the young boys on board were returning from a football practice.
Some of the teens were students who were going to get pre-registration documents from a community school.
Police spokesperson Moses Carter told The Associated Press, that five people are now known to have drowned.
The accident occurred close to the country’s international airport, Robertsfield.
