Chaos erupted in the Ugandan town of Kamwokya in the capital Kampala on Thursday after police feared teargas at supporters of an MP.

The Ugandan MP, Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine from his music career has been in detention since Tuesday.

The vocal Ugandan lawmaker, faced an army court martial on Thursday. He is part of a group of MPs arrested for instigating an attack on Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni.

Police said the President’s convoy was attacked in the town of Arua in the country’s northwest on Monday.

One of the vehicles in the convoy had its rear windscreen shattered, according to reports. Bobi Wine was campaigning for independent candidate in the race, Kassiano Wadri.

The MP’s driver was killed in the violent incident. The MP’s family claimed he was rather the target of that shooting incident.

Bobi Wine’s supporters were reportedly protesting in his stronghold of Kamwokya but were met by police force.

Where is Bobi Wine?

Bobi Wine is reported to have been taken to hospital on Wednesday after falling ill in custody.

He appeared before the army court martial on Thursday facing criminal charges.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Moses Ali told parliament on Wednesday that Bobi Wine will face the Army Court Martial.

President Museveni has blamed the stoning of his convoy on “weak management by the police and the criminal behavior of some of the opposition leaders.”

“Some leaders have been acting with impunity … these acts are strongly rejected and will be punished,” he said in a statement.
