A teacher in Kenya has been jailed for three years for slapping one of his students.

The secondary school teacher was found guilty of assaulting the female student. The incident occurred in March of 2014.

A magistrate court on Friday sentenced Wycliffe Kingori Mwangi for his crime which has left the female student with a ruptured eardrum.

The female student is reported to have undergone ear operation to correct a partial hearing loss.

The judge Lucy Ambasi was quoted by Daily Nation as saying that she found “the accused, who has been charged with slapping the complainant thrice leading to secondary ear infection and subsequent partial hearing loss, guilty of the offence,”.

The female student from Kaaga Girls High School was accused by the school of practicing lesbianism.

Daily Nation reports that witnesses said the teacher summoned the student at night claiming he had received complaints from other students about her.

The female student was accused of peeping at other students in the bathroom.

The student is said to have complained about other students spreading the allegations. Instead of being given a haring the teacher slapped her.

The magistrate said the student should have been given a hearing on her concerns and not assaulted by her teacher.

The teacher was convicted on the charge of simple assault avoiding more serious charge of assault causing grievous harm.
