The family of former South African president Jacob Zuma says his son, Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma, died of Lupus.
A family representative, Linda Makatini said on Wednesday in a statement that Vusi “departed on the 1st July 2018 from complications of systematic lupus erythematosus, simply known as lupus.”
Lupus disease causes chronic inflammation as an autoimmune response to the body’s own cells.
Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma was the youngest son of Zuma and his late wife Kate Mantsho.
Solidarity for Zuma
The ruling African National Congress expressed its condolences in a statement.
It called the young Zuma a “bright and promising young lion and disciplined member” of the party.
Young Zuma was a “dedicated and humble activist who took keen interest in the livelihoods of our people”, it added.
Memorial for Vusi
The family says there would be a gathering in Forest Town on Wednesday night for prayers to remember Vusi Zuma.
A memorial service would be held on Thursday to be open to close friends and family.
The funeral service would then take place on Saturday followed by burial.
Zuma who resigned from office this year has four wives, including one from whom he is separated.
The 76 year old former leader also has more than 20 children.
The former President of South Africa is set to marry a 24 year old lady, as his seventh wife.
