Mother of the leader of the Boko Haram group says she feels sad about her son’s actions.

For years the militant group, Boko Haram has wreaked havoc on thousands of people and communities in Nigeria.

The group is adamant in ending hostilities and still appears relentless in his destruction.

Efforts by the Nigerian government to end hostilities have not been successful so far.

The man leading this group is Abubakar Shekau who has vowed to lead his group to cause more havoc.

His mother Falmata Abubakar however considers as destructive and evil the handiwork of his son.

Speaking out

The mother of Boko Haram’s leader has been telling Voice of America how she feels about what her son is doing.

Falmata is quoted as saying that her son has “brought many problems to many people”

“I am praying for God to show him the good way,” she added adding that she hasn’t seen him in 15 years.

In the interview Falmata added that Shekau is “my son and every mother loves her son, but we have different characters.

He brought a lot of problem to many people. He just took his own character and went away.”

The mother of the militant revealed that “This is not the character I gave him. I don’t know what this type of behavior is. It’s only God who knows.”

Is Shekau Alive of dead?

The Nigerian government has on several occasions said the leader of the militant group is dead.

That account has been disputed several times by Shekau who occasionally appears in videos.

His mother wondered “Where can I meet him to tell him that these things he is doing is very bad?”

“I don’t now if he’s alive or dead,” says Falmata adding that “It’s only God who knows.”

Insurgency by Boko Haram

The insurgency of Boko Haram has been ongoing since 2009 with the aim of establish an Islamic caliphate in West Africa.

The insurgency isn’t only present in Nigeria but neighbouring countries like Cameroon.

Millions have been displaced and thousands killed forcing some to flee.
