A deadly attack in northern Mozambique has been reported by local media with over 10 people believed to have been beheaded.
State Radio Mocambique reported on Tuesday that the attack took place over the weekend in an area that has suffered Islamist attacks in the past.
The attack took place in a village close to Palma, near Mozambique’s border with East African country Tanzania.
Radio Mocambique reported that “Unknown persons killed by decapitation at least 10 people in recent days in the administrative post of Olumbi, Palma district, in the north of Cabo Delgado province”.
The national broadcaster TVM also spoke to Palma district administrator David Machimbuko who claimed security officials have been dispatched to the affected and potential areas likely to suffer attacks.
