Ebola patients have been reported to have escaped quarantine in the Congo river port city of Mbandaka with two of those patients dieing later on.
The head of medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres’ (MSF) mission in the city, Henri Gray who made the revelation on Wednesday, according to Reuters said one of the patients was found alive.
Henri Gray has said that the rescued patient is currently under observation by MSF and the World Health Organization.
On Tuesday seven new cases were reported to have been confirmed in the town of Bikoro as officials continue with vaccination exercise across the country to stop the spread of the virus.
DR Congo’s health ministry spokeswoman Jessica Ilunga told Reuters that one of the deaths was recorded in the provincial capital of Mbandaka. A nurse also died in the village of Bikoro, where the outbreak was first detected.
The Congolese government is hoping to receive some 300,000 doses of vaccine in the coming days from its partners for effective containment of the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has assured that the current Ebola outbreak can be brought under control, allaying any fears of it becoming a global crisis.
