Officials in Ghana have said that they have deported 100 illegal African immigrants for engaging in deceitful activities in the West African country.
The country’s Immigration Service (GIS) has disclosed that most of the illegal migrants were arrested in a swoop in parts of the capital city, Accra over the past three months.
The spokesperson for the Immigration service, Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta told local media Citi FM that “Mostly, the offences ranged from illegal employment, overstaying, some with suspicious characters and some with fraudulent documents.”
Amoako-Atta, gave further details about the arrest of these migrants saying “We set up our intelligence gathering in some spots in the city and through that we were able to arrest mostly African migrants, who were in the country and whose stay was in contravention of the immigration laws of the country.”
Ghana currently is struggling to deal with crime wave with citizens calling for urgent action to ensure their safety.
The latest news of the deportation of the 100 immigrants according to the Ghana Immigration service is to support other security agencies fight crime in the country.
In 2016 Ghana deported 20 illegal immigrants and another 58 in 2017. Details of the nationalities of those recently deported have not been made public.
