The banker of the late Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi’s has been attacked by armed robbers in Johannesburg in South Africa.
Bashir Saleh is linked by the United Nations to the payment of $800m into a bank account in Kenya from one in South Africa.
News24 reported that he was wounded in a shooting in Atholl Oaklands, northern Johannesburg, according to the police on Wednesday.
Bashir Saleh is wanted by France.
On Wednesday, national police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed in a statement that the man was attacked on the evening of February 23 by a group of armed suspects on the Atholl Oakland off-ramp.
“Using a hammer one of the suspects broke the window of the vehicle, opened the door and pulled the victim out of the vehicle,” Mogale said.
She further said “The suspects allegedly shot the victim before fleeing with his laptop. The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention,”
South African police had been aware of Saleh’s presence in South Africa since at 2013.
