Congolese military officials have announced the arrest of a man believed to have ordered the killing of two UN investigators in 2017.
A village chief in a town south of the country, Constantin Tshidime Bulabula was arrested on Saturday, a Congolese military spokesperson said confirming that the suspect has been detained.
The bodies of Michael Sharp, a U.S. citizen, and Zaida Catalan, a Swedish national were found in March after they were reported to have gone missing.
The two were part of a group of experts that went to the country to monitor a sanctions regime imposed on Congo by the U.N. Security Council.
The discovery of their bodies by some villagers in the central part of the country shocked the world sparking calls for full scale investigations both from the UN and the Congolese government.
The suspect Constantin Tshidime Bulabula is long believed to have been behind the killings with Military spokesperson Anthony Mualushayi saying that Tshidime Bulabula, has been taken to Kananga, along with another presumed suspect Tresor Mputu.
