South Africa’s ANC delegates are voting on Monday to elect Jacob Zuma’s replacement as leader of the ruling party.
The battle for the top post is between Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and former cabinet minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
These two contenders were the only candidates nominated for the ANC top post at the party conference on Sunday.
At the conference on Sunday Ramaphosa had majority of nominations from party branches ahead of his closest rival, Dlamini-Zuma.
4,776 delegates are expected to vote to choose a new leader.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, 65 a former trade union leader is considered the favourite.
He has been endorsed by ANC Chairwoman Baleka Mbete who is also speaker of parliament. “We publicly endorse comrade Cyril Ramaphosa,” she told reporters on Saturday.
Dlamini-Zuma, 68 is also backed by her former husband, Jacob Zuma.
