Leaders of the regional West African bloc, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are meeting in Abuja, Nigeria for a heads of state summit.
These leaders are expected to discuss major developments within the regional bloc over the past one year and find solutions to pressing issues affecting their people.
Among the issues under consideration are; Economic Performance and Implementation of Regional Integration Programmes, ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET), ECOWAS Agricultural Policy, Peace, Security and Deepening of Democracy in the Sub Region and Institutional Reforms among others.
The Heads of State at their meeting on Saturday will review the situation in Liberia with regard to it’s presidential run-off election scheduled to take place on December 26.
Recent unrest in Togo and reported human rights abuses are to be discussed. The 52nd session was to be held in Togo but current political situation has forced the meeting to be moved to Abuja, Nigeria.
The President of Togo and current Chairperson of ECOWAS, Faure Gnassingbé is to brief his fellow leaders on developments in his country.
The ECOWAS leaders are also expected to discuss the sale of African migrants in Libya.
