African leaders on Monday pushed for the implementation of the global Sustainable Development Goals meant to develop deprived countries across the world.
Most of the countries requiring much work to enhance their development are in Africa. Leaders of some of these developing countries now want the implementation of these SDGs done with urgency.
Ghana’s President Akufo Addo on Monday hosted a high level Africa round-table meeting on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana’s capital Accra.
President Akufo Addo said the deficit in human development in Africa, the high levels of poverty and deprivation, climate change and the teaming numbers of young people who are unemployed on the African continent are reasons enough for African leaders to take the implementation of the SDGs more seriously.
The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame also said African governments cannot on their own ensure the implementation of the SDGs and called for private sector cooperation to realize results.
The meeting was meant to mobilize support and accelerate the implementation of the (SDGs).
Launched on 21 January 2016 the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
