There is high level of hope for a better economic transformation in Zimbabwe ahead of the inauguration of Mnangagwa as the interim president of the country after Robert Mugabe resigned after staying in power for 37 years.
Zimbabwe’s former vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, returned to Harare on Wednesday to be sworn in as President after fleeing the country to South Africa when he was sacked by Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa told a jubilant supporters of Zanu PF on Wednesday that “The people have spoken. The voice of the people is the voice of God,”
“Today we are witnessing the beginning of a new and unfolding democracy,” He added.
Zimbabwe is said to have a high rate of unemployment and worsening economic situation due to sanctions during the tenure of Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa said “We want to grow our economy, we want peace in our country, we want jobs, jobs, jobs,” he told the crowd, adding: “The will of the people will always, always succeed.”
Mnangagwa until recently was an ally of Mr. Mugabe but a power struggle between him and wife of his former boss, Grace Mugabe led to his sacking and his decision to subsequently flee the country.
The ruling Zanu PF party passed a resolution to make Mnangagwa its new president after removing Robert Mugabe.
