The President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe could be impeached as leader of the country should he refuse to step down by 10:00 GMT a deadline set for him by his party the Zanu PF.
The party passed a resolution on Sunday to sack their leader and asked him to resign as President or face impeachment in parliament.
Although President Mugabe has been removed as leader of the Zanu PF he still remains President of the country.
But Mr. Mugabe shocked the world on Sunday night when in a television address he failed to mention any intention of stepping down.
This means that Zanu PF has a last option of initiating a process in Zimbabwe’s parliament on Tuesday to impeach Mr. Mugabe should he not resign on Monday.
The military last week took charge of the country placing Mr. Mugabe under house arrest but the 93 year old leader was seen in public attending a public graduation ceremony.
On Saturday, thousands Zimbabweans staged a massive street rally also putting pressure on President Mugabe to step down.
The war veterans of the country have now signaled another street protest on Wednesday if Mr. Mugabe does not exit power.
This action by the Zanu PF could be seen as a humiliation for Mr. Mugabe who led the country to independence in 1980 and has been the country’s leader since then.
