The Vice President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sacked by the country’s leader, Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa, 75-years is a former intelligence chief and was considered one of the potential successors to Mr. Mugabe who has been in power for decades.
The dismissed vice president recently clashed with the country’s first lady, Grace Mugabe over succession plan within the ruling Zanu-PF party
A statement from the Zimbabwe Information Minister Simon Khaya Moyo on Monday said Mnangagwa was sacked for exhibiting “traits of disloyalty, disrespect and deceitfulness.”
Grace Mugabe is now expected to be appointed Vice-President at a special congress of the ruling Zanu-PF party next month.
The first lady of Zimbabwe has already declared her intention to succeed her husband by calling out Mr. Mugabe and asking him to let her take over his post.
Grace Mugabe told a church gathering in Harare that she is very ready to take over from her 93 year old husband as leader of the Southern African country.
“I say to Mr Mugabe you should … leave me to take over your post,” Grace said in an address to the gathering at a stadium in Harare.
